Letting The Imagination Run Wild

This is another drawing in the same vein as my entry for IF's Monster. I created this one well over a decade ago, as a gift for one of my very best friends ever, Jeb Branin. Jeb and I co-wrote a book on heavy metal trivia called QUESTION AUTHORITY last year.. I posted a photo for the cover in one of my earlier posts. This particular drawing was very much an exercise in line control and simply letting my imagination go crazy. This was done with a sharpie on glossy card stock. No pencil work at all, just straight pen work. I am pretty sure that the main inspiration for this mess has to be John Carpenter's masterful horror movie "THE THING"... and throw in a dash of Bernie Wrightson's stellar work from the Spider-Man graphic novel "HOOKY" and there you have it. Sorry about the blurry lower right hand corner, I made a copy of this drawing on a vertical camera (now that dates me!) because my friend owns the original... so that corner didnt come out very sharp.

Oh wow that's impressive! I really like this because it has a wonderful pattern and texture to it... It would be cool to tile it and make a pattern, like wallpaper.

Yeah! That's some damn cool work! I'd love to have a black coat with red lining which would have this as a repeating pattern! Lovely detail! Cool stuff!
