I Am The Law

Another Airbrush painting from a few years back. I believe this one was painted around 1993. This painting has the interesting history of making me a decent amount of money without actually selling it! Oddly enough, I took this painting in to be framed at a home improvement store. At the time the company was pretty big, but they have since gone under. I don't really know what obsessed me to take my art to a home improvement store to be framed, probably the price. About 2 weeks after I had taken the artwork in, the store called and said the framing was finished and I could pick it up. I arrived to find the framed picture wrapped in brown wrapping paper. Interesting. I opened the paper to check out the framing, and there was a huge half inch scratch right through the center of the painting, from top to bottom... OUCH!

To make a long story short, after getting an appraisal at the Springville Museum of Art, and doing the sidewinder sidestep with the home improvement store's lawyers, I settled out of court for about $700.00. I was able to fix the scratch with a few tedious repairs, and I still own the painting. The character (for those not in the know) is JUDGE DREDD, one of my favorite comic book law men. I have to give credit to the heavy metal band ANTHRAX for introducing me to Judge Dredd comics, by way of their outstanding album Among The Living.

This was painted in the tiny apartment my wife and I lived in when we first got married.

Judge Dredd is and has always been my favorite comic book character. Very nice painting. Brian Bolland rocks!
