Death Dream Vol. 1

In another attempt at self torture, I am posting one from the dusty corners of the art crypt. This one dates all the way back to 1983...Drawn in my high school art class. I had just discovered the joys of fine tip felt markers, and this one (can't remember the brand... sorry!) was obviously a little less than good dark permanent ink. I was riding a wave of all things horror at the time (some things never change!), and this was an attempt to pay tribute to some of my favorites. The worst part about this piece is the total lack of variation in line widths along with a total lack of any real tones, no darks, no mids- just mind numbingly boring fine lines. The background was filled with thousands of little round circles, something I found amusing for some reason back then- I really don't know why.
The nasty contrast on the image is just a result of a quick and dirty photograph, yes thats my shadow causing the dark cast on the left. The best thing about this piece is the "where's waldo" vibe going on. Some of the cast of characters I included here are: The Metaluna Mutant from This Island Earth (not to be confused with one of the band members from the Star Wars cantina - he's in here too...), Tor Johnson, The Creature From The Black Lagoon, Frankenstein's Monster, The Green Goblin, Jason Voorhees from Friday The 13th pt. 1, Gene Simmons dragon boot, The Red Skull, the Wampa from Empire Strikes Back, Yoda (?), and one of the Baseball Furies from The Warriors. Probably a whole bunch more but those are the ones I noticed. Can you find them all? Pretty boring style wise, but amusing nonetheless. This would have made a cool coloring book page!
