NOT FRAGILE

Ahhh, 1993. Hard to believe 13 years have passed since I created this! Not Fragile was a "fanzine" I created around 1991. My good friend Jeb Branin and I created it, and it served as an outlet to satisfy our undying cravings for heavy metal and punk rock music. We wrote reviews of hard rock music, interviewed bands and took photos at concerts. I typically would end up hand drawing all of the covers, and that was the case with this one. I drew the "splitting head" logo for the band Skitzo on this one as well. I would do a lot of paste up work on these too, as technology wasn't as advanced back in those days. Desktop scanners were pretty much unheard of unless you were loaded, which of course I wasn't! I cringe when I think of all the time it took to create this little labor of love- we photocopied these, and we would fold all the spreads and collate them all by hand. We ended up getting 2 positive reviews in a national magazine called "Metal Maniacs", and we were receiving submissions from bands as far away as South Africa by the time we finally ended this little project. I got to meet a ton of very cool bands and do one on one interviews with a lot of my heroes as a result of this 'zine, and I really enjoyed the great times I had with my friend Jeb while we were producing this. The colors here were added in Photoshop, something I didn't know much about back when this 'zine first came out. Probably around the time of PS version 1? Man, I am OLD!

Great stuff. It's not very often you find artists who will even consider blogging work that's more than 6 months old!

WOW! The memories you brought back with this. Dirty Rotten Imbeciles, Black Flag, Skinny Puppy, Siouxie & the Banshees were just a few of the Punk bands I listened to in the early 90's.

Great job and I love the skulls! Such variety!
