Illustration Friday _ TATTOO

I finally got around to digging through my old art archives last night... this is a cartoon I drew for a "fanzine" I produced in the early 90's called "NOT FRAGILE". It was a heavy metal music review 'zine, and it was a lot of fun to create. This particular cartoon was done for an interview I had conducted with a band called "THE CHAINSAW KITTENS". I loved the name, and I drew the group of 4 kittens based on the actual band members. The single kitten wielding the chainsaw was drawn a bit earlier, just as a way to express the visual image I saw when I heard this bands name. My good friend Kevin Kirk, owner of The Heavy Metal Shop liked this one so much that he had it tattooed on his chest! I am hoping to get a photo of the actual tattoo to post on here sometime later today.

I posted this KISS artwork a while ago, but since the IF theme is Tattoo, I figured this was appropriate. I painted this with watercolor, it was intended to be used as a design for a tattoo, the comic book art of Gene in the upper left and as the purple lion creature had already been tattooed on the back of the lady I designed this for. She wanted to unify the tattoos into one large design, thus the broken glass effect. I don't think she ever ended up using this, but she did pay me for the painting, and it was fun to do.
