I painted this one in all black and white as a tribute to this awesome B&W film. This one was painted for my friend Travis at work- his son is a big fan of NOTLD. I watched "Spider Baby" and "Blood Bath" while working on this one. Built this grinning tombstone with my friend in terror, Jordan Colton. This was made from a sheet of insulation foam, some papier mache clay, and some creative painting using acrylic craft paints.<br /><br />I learned a lot from building this, and I am looking forward to doing more projects in this same vein. Oh yeah, gotta give credit for the inspiration on this to "STOLLOWEEN". Finally got around to painting the lovely Elsa Lanchester as The Bride of Frankenstein. This one is for my friend and talented artist Chrissie Altese. I promised her I would paint a Bottle Cap Monster for her quite some time ago, and this was the monster she picked. Great choice! I am a huge fan of The Bride, and I was worried it was going to be tough to capture a good likeness of her at such a small scale. I am really happy with the way this one turned out.<br /><br />As usual, this is acrylic paint inside a bottle cap lid.Patrickhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01669433979334259774noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20137222.post-61375814722543995062011-03-07T06:41:00.004-07:002011-03-07T06:48:15.854-07:00Frank The Bunny BCM #3<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBYL3_BjXxVKgvQVNZ-W58Hia40J7L6_ZmzW-R8Wcdn5YvJiGARaBxay7xzyk0EqqdYZrrOq_ZruraZmKgseiDBIb_neG2XPSj-Z_BalN0csbaHlBHFh26Lmis-Sm4TXKxA8Yo/s1600/frank+the+bunny+bcm3.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 267px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBYL3_BjXxVKgvQVNZ-W58Hia40J7L6_ZmzW-R8Wcdn5YvJiGARaBxay7xzyk0EqqdYZrrOq_ZruraZmKgseiDBIb_neG2XPSj-Z_BalN0csbaHlBHFh26Lmis-Sm4TXKxA8Yo/s400/frank+the+bunny+bcm3.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5581333998569402050" border="0" /></a><br />Got in some painting time last night, managed to create 2 new Bottle Cap Monsters. Going to try a new format with this one, instead of gluing the cap to the standard cardboard coffin, I will be designing a 4x6 background to glue it on. I think it will make the Bottle Cap Monsters a little more practical, and at least easier to frame and hang on a wall. This one was a commissioned piece, and it sounds like it will be used as birthday present. I always try to make every bottle cap a little bit different, even if I have painted the same character before, so I moved the focus a little closer to Bubba's face this time. I am very happy with the way this one turned out, and looking forward to seeing it on the 4x6 photo once I get it finished.Patrickhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01669433979334259774noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20137222.post-72206398313214999012011-02-10T10:54:00.004-07:002011-02-10T11:30:43.105-07:00Dusty Graves Sketch Card<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhh_j8zkpRZ5f_3QVL_dohcSJsCnbRkOu4HjvOvrLnTQz1MwnY8Tu2nYBSy2Pa4CBjh7nPZofiAdJRxaDuwslwU7JXMO4tMK9S0MH-weJyiicI9-RvXI7PaGVR00YPuGKJJCfNG/s1600/dusty+graves+card+72.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 283px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhh_j8zkpRZ5f_3QVL_dohcSJsCnbRkOu4HjvOvrLnTQz1MwnY8Tu2nYBSy2Pa4CBjh7nPZofiAdJRxaDuwslwU7JXMO4tMK9S0MH-weJyiicI9-RvXI7PaGVR00YPuGKJJCfNG/s400/dusty+graves+card+72.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5572121773727096082" border="0" /></a><br />I created this guy for a forthcoming t-shirt design I am working on, drawn with Pigma Micron felt tip markers, Prismacolor markers and Prismacolored pencils. My sincere apologies to anyone that has stopped by my blog in the last while- I have been terrible about updating, but once again I am hoping to correct that and start adding more of my morbid creations here. I finally updated the look of this blog which was also WAY overdue!<br /><br />Things finally seem to have settled down with my employment situation, as I am approaching my 1 year anniversary as a Graphic Designer for the Deseret News, a newspaper based in Salt Lake City, Utah. I have also been very busy working on a BIG horror related project that I really can't talk much about at the moment, but with a little luck and a little more time I should be able to start revealing more about it soon.<br /><br />In the meantime, I will try to post some of the limited artwork I have done recently, and I am really making an effort to get back into the swing of doing more artwork, including more bottle cap monsters! To get things started, here's a look at a sketch book page I filled a few months ago- I am almost finished with the following page in the same sketchbook, and will be posting it here soon as well. As usual, this was all drawn with various Pigma Micron felt tip markers in my moleskine sketchbook.<br /><br />Looking forward to hearing from my Mordacious friends soon, so as usual STAY SCARY and I will be seeing you here soon!Patrickhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01669433979334259774noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20137222.post-8199191741209184062010-06-15T22:20:00.004-06:002010-06-15T22:26:43.177-06:00Return to the Crypt of Bottle Cap Monsters!<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIx13FSuXDubEkZ5lIBV8Ga2bkfTgoYHBoAtxbyGXX0FEMLSDAT6q48vEF3d6S3Rfd5P2FUzUyRjOBjPPq94OTyfb7jx78IN9X0CqUpx7FStg2BC5dzPse-FjowgiOJOrjZEQb/s1600/shock+monster+BCM.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 384px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIx13FSuXDubEkZ5lIBV8Ga2bkfTgoYHBoAtxbyGXX0FEMLSDAT6q48vEF3d6S3Rfd5P2FUzUyRjOBjPPq94OTyfb7jx78IN9X0CqUpx7FStg2BC5dzPse-FjowgiOJOrjZEQb/s400/shock+monster+BCM.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5483222326951529762" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgR5SpBdYsF62tZ92lqTgJA69erTSoU5Sw5PNlemZbWtfo6ZH6hAaRtpP5sQ20MuzeWpcSeXKbo5L6lBnInzwN2PK04RsKcB1SJi-NRp53Voupvq8UvsRaKuVeucqzwH0oz_Vba/s1600/santa+jack+BCM.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 390px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgR5SpBdYsF62tZ92lqTgJA69erTSoU5Sw5PNlemZbWtfo6ZH6hAaRtpP5sQ20MuzeWpcSeXKbo5L6lBnInzwN2PK04RsKcB1SJi-NRp53Voupvq8UvsRaKuVeucqzwH0oz_Vba/s400/santa+jack+BCM.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5483222090490987074" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimZpzfZeGh9VuuN9rdKTDRpznyUqUZ00PXjyjSGUBsolDIiOq465jJWuUIliu6zxeDW1fbaz1XyFIWO3lTuG4yQTO3QswcvlOB-bR4TVCTBbXnDGzIk7PlJJ-vrrJ7LoLObUO9/s1600/BCM+52+DEADPOOL.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 394px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimZpzfZeGh9VuuN9rdKTDRpznyUqUZ00PXjyjSGUBsolDIiOq465jJWuUIliu6zxeDW1fbaz1XyFIWO3lTuG4yQTO3QswcvlOB-bR4TVCTBbXnDGzIk7PlJJ-vrrJ7LoLObUO9/s400/BCM+52+DEADPOOL.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5483221917513520514" border="0" /></a><br />I have been painting a few more Bottle Cap Monsters recently- Here are Deadpool, Jack Skellington as Sandy Claws, and The Shock Monster. Man, I hate it when I go so long without doing artwork, it's almost like a vitamin deficiency or something, I can feel it gnawing on me inside when I am not doing enough creative work!<br /><br />In an attempt to make my crazy little Bottle Cap Monsters a bit more practical, I decided to try creating a Bottle Cap Monster Necklace. This is the premier BCM necklace, with good old Jack Skellington- this one was by request for my good friend Travis Jones. Travis is a serious collector of Nightmare Before Christmas stuff, and he has been subltly hinting for a long time that he wanted a Jack Skellington BCM, so at long last I sat down and created one for him.<br /><br />Painting Jack was actually tougher than I anticipated- he looks deceptively simple to paint, but there is a lot of stuff going on that makes it hard to make him look right. It was a fun challenge, and I enjoyed the process. More of these to come soon!Patrickhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01669433979334259774noreply@blogger.com69tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20137222.post-23877322792792248172009-06-29T15:37:00.004-06:002009-06-29T15:41:32.875-06:00Glow of the Laboratory<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwUesWv9xPmhxNUFXNceN7oiEhrqtAasHqPvfOhm3brG6Cq8zBNJaWR1a4wYVQHQ1KX163WswW0HmagHvrQsXy6HkOWQSY0E4x4-tRTig4h9ZXcYxkNt5u9uBDqWXiU7W-hBCO/s1600-h/king+karloff.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 285px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwUesWv9xPmhxNUFXNceN7oiEhrqtAasHqPvfOhm3brG6Cq8zBNJaWR1a4wYVQHQ1KX163WswW0HmagHvrQsXy6HkOWQSY0E4x4-tRTig4h9ZXcYxkNt5u9uBDqWXiU7W-hBCO/s400/king+karloff.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5352866964962012034" border="0" /></a>Been a crazy couple of past weeks for me. Took a break from painting after Monsterpalooza, but that could only last so long- so I decided to crank out a larger scale acrylic painting, and this was the result. Painted on masonite board. I have a feeling there will be lots more to come soon. I am also getting started on a larger airbrush illo of Creature from the Black Lagoon. Man, Universal monsters are too much fun to paint!<br /><br />Oh, by the way- this painting is for sale if anyone is interested. What better place to start than with a Tusken Raider? Anakin may have wiped out an entire camp of these guys, but there will always be a place in my heart for that scene in Episode 4 when the tusken raider rises up right in front of Luke!Patrickhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01669433979334259774noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20137222.post-32384987567964480962009-05-11T11:37:00.001-06:002009-05-11T11:39:18.834-06:00Metaluna Mutant - BCM<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgoMgk8cfzOYWdfYvs0LwKaP7VxuOKQroyFQ1Coi_i4BNPFKEiJuLFqtmZfI9e4cmZYHtcIW5rwWejsMS7crW5MtWuGE9zb-jOvDtyeUe6J7h1j3kPzQiQvL-TMlngMN6WA0ocb/s1600-h/mutant+BCM.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 384px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgoMgk8cfzOYWdfYvs0LwKaP7VxuOKQroyFQ1Coi_i4BNPFKEiJuLFqtmZfI9e4cmZYHtcIW5rwWejsMS7crW5MtWuGE9zb-jOvDtyeUe6J7h1j3kPzQiQvL-TMlngMN6WA0ocb/s400/mutant+BCM.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5334622340408523506" border="0" /></a><br />From the sci-fi legend that is "This Island Earth" it's the Metaluna Mutant! The original 1933 version is still my favorite by far. Kong is one mean monster, I love the scene when he crushes a person and grinds them into the dirt like he is putting out a cigarette. Classic stuff that! This, along with many other bottle cap monsters will be available for sale at my table at Monsterpalooza in Burbank, CA starting May 29th! Hope to see you there!!Patrickhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01669433979334259774noreply@blogger.com0
